Blick von erhöhtem Standpunkt über eine hügelige Landschaft mit Bergen in der Ferne unter bewegtem Wolkenhimmel. Rechts in der Tiefe eine Stadt am Ufer eines Flusses, links zwei Bäume, dazwischen Waldweg mit der Gestalt Jesu, welcher der neutestamentlichen Legende nach vom Satan in Versuchung gebracht wird. Weiter hinten Ruinengebäude.
Anmerkung:
Das Gemälde entspricht einem Kupferstich mit den Maßen 34,7 x 48,5 cm von Jan van Londerseel (1570 - 1624), verlegt von Claes Jansz Visscher (1587 - 1652).
