Eine plane Landschaft die durch eine Hecke horizontal gestuft ist, wird von einer Hügelkette mit davorliegender Windmühle und sich als Silhouette abzeichnender gotischer Kirche hinterfangen. Dies ist der Hintergrund für die Darstellung eines Schafes, welches als Hauptmotiv den gesamten mittleren Grund einnimmt und nach links gerichtet ist. Willoughby war spezialisiert für solche Darstellungen, in denen er nicht nur Schafe, sondern auch Pferde und Kühe zeigte.
