Die Zuweisung an den Künstler durch Expertise von Dr. Klaus Zeller, Lindau, 20.5.2008 mit der Formulierung, dass es sich um ein einwandfreies und authentisches Werk handelt, das um 1900 entstanden sein dürfte.
Die Szene in bäuerlichem Interieur. Der junge Zitherspieler auf einem Schemel, links ein sitzendes sowie ein stehendes Mädchen aufmerksam den Tönen lauschend. Das Thema wurde von Defregger bekanntlich mehrmals in unterschiedlichen Maßen wiederholt, mit Detailunterschieden, häufig jedoch auch kopiert.
