Der flämische Maler wurde 1687 in Gent Meister, war jedoch vor allem in Brüssel und Antwerpen tätig. Er malte vor allem Jagd- und Wildstilleben, die sich an Werken des Jan Fyt orientierten, jedoch wählte er zumeist ein kleineres Format. Das vorliegende Gemälde bildet ein besonders schönes Beispiel für die Stilleben mit totem Getier, hier mit Singvögeln, die in pyramidenartigem Aufbau vor einer roten Draperie präsentiert sind. Die durchdachte Komopsition, der Lichteinfall sowie die Pinselführung bezeugen die meisterliche und hohe Qualität dieses Gemäldes. (981551) (12)
