Maler der venezianischen Schule, der später in Dänemark gewirkt hat und dort etwa den Rosensaal des 1720 erbauten Schlosses Fredensborg mit großformatigen Gemälden ausgestattet hatte, die auch italienische Fantasieruinenlandschaften zeigen.

Die linke Hälfte des Bildes nimmt ein antikes, ruinenhaftes Gebäude mit hohem Rundbogen und anschließendem Säulenbau mit Sarkophag und Vase zwischen den ionischen, glatten Säulen in braunem Marmor ein. Davor im Schatten spielende Kinder und eine sich verlustierende ländliche Gesellschaft. Rechts zieht das Gelände zu einem Fluss herab, mit Segelschiff und einer Häusergruppe am gegenüberliegenden Ufer. Der Blick zieht hier weiter zum Horizont mit Bergen und Burganlagen. Ein kompositioneller Kunstgriff ist das Zusammenfinden der unterschiedlichen Tiefenräume im Bild durch die einheitlich von links mittig nach rechts oben ziehende Wolkenformation vor blauem Firmament.
