Familienszene in großbürgerlichem Interieur, im Vordergrund ein zerknirscht vor den Eltern stehender junger Mann, der von der links sitzenden Mutter willig aufgenommen wird, während der Vater noch nachdenklich zum Fenster blickt, von der verständnisvollen Schwester im Arm gehalten. Das gleichermaßen fein gemalte Interieur zeigt ein Gemälde von Rubens sowie einen Rokoko-Wandspiegel oberhalb eines Tafelklaviers mit aufgestellten, fein gemalten Noten. Links ein Wandschirm vor dem Fenster. Die häusliche Szene der gut gekleideten bürgerlichen Gesellschaft reflektiert das Thema der "Heimkehr des verlorenen Sohnes" in die bürgerliche Welt des 19.
