Die frühen Pickelhauben waren zunächst Metallarbeiten, welche in Elberfeld, Wuppertal gefertigt wurden, erst später kam, zur Erleichterung der Tragenden, das gepresste Büffelleder mit Lackierung in Einsatz. Der Begriff Pickelhaube lehnt sich an die Form der Spitze an, der offizielle Begriff für diese Kopfbedeckungsform ist jedoch „Helm mit Spitze“. (1231236) (13)
