Der in den Niederlanden geborene Künstler siedelte mit seiner Familie 1967 nach Vancouver, Kanada, um und genoss dort an der Vancouver Art School seine künstlerische Ausbildung. In den 1980ern zog er in das East Village von Manhattan und wurde Teil der Neo-Geo-Bewegung, zusammen mit Künstlern wie Ashley Bickerton (geb. 1959), Catharine Burgess (geb. 1953), Paul Kuhn (geb. 1950) und Daniel Ong. Werke des Künstlers befinden sich u. a. in den Sammlungen des MOMA in New York, des MOCA in Los Angeles, des Moderna Museet in Stockholm oder dem Portland Art Museum in Portland.
