Beigegeben ein Zertifikat.

Salle studierte unter John Baldessari am California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, Kalifornien.

David Salle
Born 1952 Norman, Oklahoma
Lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

POINTING DOWN, 1998

Oil and acrylic on canvas.
ca. 86.5 x 103 cm.
Signed, dated and titled on the reverse.

Accompanied by certificate.

The present painting comprises two parts. The left half of the painting is dominated by a ball of colour set against a light blue background, while the right half shows a hand pointing downwards. This random combination of apparently unconnected elements is characteristic for Salle’s oeuvre and makes him one of the most important artists of Postmodernism. Works by the artist have been exhibited in the most prominent international museums, for example at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam as early as 1983, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Tate Modern in London.

Provenance:
Baldwin Gallery, Aspen (label on reverse).

This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
