Das Konzil wurde im Jahre 325 von Kaiser Konstantin I, der als erster Imperator zum Christentum übergetreten war, einberufen. Hier ist eine Szenerie dargestellt, in der Konzilteilnehmer, vor allem Bischöfe, um den Wert oder Unwert theologischer Schriften streiten. Einer der Bischöfe hält ein Buch in den Raum, das von einem Feuer vertilgt wird, wobei sich wohl ein Werk der Arianer oder anderer Häretiker handelt, die nicht in den Kanon aufgenommen wurden. Der jugendliche Kaiser ist hier unter einem Tuchbaldachin, auf erhöhtem Marmorsockel sitzend wiedergegeben, mit dem Finger auf das brennende Buch hinweisend. (1201966) (130800) (11)
