Das Gemälde illustriert den Evangelientext aus Lukas, Kap. 1, Vers 39-56, wonach Maria ihre Schwangerschaft spürt und zu der weit älteren, ebenfalls in Schwangerschaft befindlichen Elisabeth geht. Die Begegnung der beiden Frauen ins Zentrum des Bildes gesetzt, Maria in rosafarbenem Kleid und blauem Umhang, Elisabeth in gedeckt grün-grauem Kleid. Links ist der Heilige Zacharias zu sehen, der den Heiligen Josef begrüßt, im Hintergrund Säulenarchitektur, daneben dunkelblau-nächtlicher Himmel. Die beiden Frauengestalten stehen hinter einem Eisengeländer, an dessen Pfosten ein Hündchen empor blickt. Das Gemälde in tadelloser Erhaltung, in hoher Qualität gemalt.
