Erste Ausgabe des berühmten Portraitwerkes, das ein sehr frühes Beispiel für die Verwendung der Clair-obscur-Technik ist. „These illustrations are remarkable as one of the earliest processes of chiaroscuro printing in which a combination of etched plates and wood-blocks was used“ (Murray). Unterschiedlich gebräunt oder etwas fleckig, die ersten Blätter neu eingehängt und im Rand gering beschnitten, teils flauer im Abdruck, etwas angestaubt und berieben. (841203)
