Das Vorbild zu dem hier vorliegenden Werk wird im Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam verwahrt (Inv.Nr. SK-C-1759), ist signiert und mit 1623 datiert. Doch das Gemälde war nicht immer in Amsterdam, sondern befand sich lange Zeit in Deutschland, genauer gesagt in Schloss Gaibach und dann in Pommersfelden in den Schönbornschen Sammlungen. Direkt danach gelangte das Honthorst-Gemälde in die Broere Charitable Foundation, Dordrecht, und von dort als Leihgabe in das Rijksmuseum.
Das vorliegende Werk – über etwaige rückwärtige Notizen lässt sich aufgrund der Doublierung nichts sagen – wird also in Deutschland nach dem Original entstanden sein, eventuell um das Honthorst-Gemälde formal in mehreren Besitzungen gleichzeitig sehen zu können. Rest. (1300305) (13)
