Dem Gemälde ist eine Expertise von Nicola Spinosa vom 10. April 2018, Neapel beigegeben, mit entsprechenden Vergleichsbeispielen sowie Literaturangabe.
Die Figurengruppe dicht gedrängt vor landschaftlichem Hintergrund mit rechts hochziehender Baumkrone. Die Jagdgöttin mit Monddiadem nach rechts sitzend wiedergegeben, der Amorknabe erhöht stehend mit Pfeileköcher und Pfeil in der rechten Hand. Zwei weitere Amoretten zwischen den Köpfen der Jagdhunde liegend. Das Bildthema ist im Zusammenhang mit der Götterlegende von Diana und Aktäon zu verstehen. Nur so erklärt sich der ernste, beinahe erzürnte Gesichtsausdruck der Göttin, während sie mit dem Finger nach links in das Waldgefilde weist, wo sich, der Legende nach, der Jäger Aktäon versteckt hält, der sie belauscht hatte. Qualitätvolle Barock-Malerei, Gesichter und Figuren in ihren Körperhaltungen ausdrucksvoll, ebenso die Wiedergabe der Jagdhunde.
