Das Bibelthema aus dem Evangelium Lukas, Kapitel 15 ist hier in äußerst seltener Weise dargestellt, insofern als gewöhnlich die Heimkehr des verlorenen Sohnes kaum, die Abreise hingegen in der Malerei sehr wohl thematisiert wird. Der Jüngling verlässt hier zu Pferde und in Begleitung von einigen Gesellen das Elternhaus, die Eltern und die trauernde Familie stehen im Türrahmen. Im Vordergrund zwei den Abreisenden begleitende Jagdhunde. Der flächige, nahezu kantige Malstil mit Betonung der Konturen ist typisch für das Werk des Malers, der bekanntlich einige Fresken in Villen des Venetto schuf. (10601414) (11)

Biblical scene from the Gospel of Luke, chapter 15. The episode has been depicted in a very unusual manner in this lot as it is customarily the Return, not the Departure of the prodigal son that is shown in painting. The flat, almost angular manner and emphasizing the contours is typical for the painting style of Carpioni who famously created frescos for the Villas of the Veneto.
