Seltene Majolika-Kanne mit Wappenkartusche

Kanne über rundem Fuß, ein konischer Korpus, im unteren Drittel godronniert und mit flacher Schulter. Am Halsansatz ein kleiner, überleitender Ring. Enger Hals mit weit hervorragendem Ausguss mit seitlichen Schweifungen, hoher, S-förmig gebogener Henkel. Die Bemalung in Sgraffiato-Technik teilt den Korpus in drei Zonen. Über der Godronnierung läuft ein Perlstab, darüber ein schmales Register mit Blattranken und Rollwerk. Dieses wiederholt sich im breiteren oberen Teil, der bis über die Schulter läuft. Das Dekor wird an Hals und Ausguss wiederholt. Der geschwungene Henkel ist verziert mit einem reduzierten Linienmuster. Auf der Front prangt ein Wappenschild mit einem Greif und Monogramm "R/R" in einer geschweiften Kartusche. Bekrönt wird es von einem Engel. Auf weißem Fond die Bemalung in Rot, Blau und Grün. Zwei Chips am Henkel, leichter Glasurabrieb.

Rare maiolica armorial jug
Height: 29 cm.
Diameter: 12.5 cm.
Faenza, 16th century.

On a circular foot, conical jug with the lower third gadrooned and a flat shoulder. A small, transitioning ring below the tight neck, protruding spout and tall, S-shaped handle. The sgraffito painting divides the body in three major zones. Body set off with bead and reel ornament above gadrooned lower section and a narrow band of vines and scrolls above. This is repeated in the broader part further up over the shoulder. The ornamentation is also repeated around neck and spout. The curved handle is decorated more simply with linear patterns. A curved cartouche at the front includes a coat of arms with a griffin and monogram 'R/R', crowned by an angel. Painted in red, blue and green on a white ground. Two chips on the handle, light glaze wear.
