Further information on this artwork

Große Platte, wellig gemuldet, in Anlehnung an Beckenschlägerschüsseln des 15. Jahrhunderts.

Maiolica armorial crespina
Diameter: 47 cm.
Faenza, 16th century.

Large dish, with wavy gadrooning, borrowing from brass alms dishes of the 15th century. With domed boss and narrow border. The border is decorated with delicate vines on a white ground. The centre with a chivalric coat of arms in a cartouche, showing three red flowers on a yellow ground, separated by a beam with a serpent coiled around it. The initials 'S.B.' on the reverse. Painted in blue, red, yellow and green.

The three flowers of the coat of arms could suggest Florence.
