Bologneser Schule der zweiten Hälfte
des 17. Jahrhunderts

Die beiden schönen Gemälde im Ovalformat gehen offenkundig auf die Kunst Guido Renis, dessen normatives Vorbild die kompositorische Logik, den weichen und fein ausgeführten Pinselstrich, die Physiognomienund Haltungen der Figuren und schließlich den ausdrucksvollen Duktus beeinflusst, der hier eine durchdachte ausgewogene pathetische Wirkung erzielt. Wir befinden uns auch in jener Phase der unorthodoxen Interpretation von Renis Stil, die sich in der zweiten Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts mit immer größerer Freiheit in der Bologneser Malerei einen Weg bahnt, mit Künstlern wie Giovanni Andrea Sirani, Carlo Cignani, Marcantonio Franceschini und Donato Creti. Besonders können wir in unserem biblischen Szenenpaar den Glanz der Farben, die Virtuosität der Gewänder und die geschickte Darstellung der Lichtreflexe auf den Oberflächen bewundern (speziell bei der Figur Judith): eine Wirkungskraft, die bereits auf die Malerei des 18. The two beautiful paintings in oval format clearly show the influence of Guido Reni (1575 - 1642) with regards to composition, soft and fine brush stokes, the figures ‘physiognomy and postures as well as the paintings’ expressive style, which achieves a elaborate, balanced and emotive effect. The second half of the 17th century is also the time in which Bolognese artists developed a style that was interpreting Guido Reni‘s style in an increasingly unconventional way including artists such as Giovanni Andrea Sirani, Carlo Cignani, Marcantonio Franceschini and Donato Creti .
With the luminosity of the colours, the virtuous depiction of the clothes and the skilful rendition of reflections on various surfaces, especially on the figure of Judith, these Biblical scenes look forward to 18th century paradigms.
