Bereits in jungen Jahren begann Santoro weitgehend autodidaktisch Motive seiner neapolitanischen Umgebung und der Amalfiküste zu malen. Ab 1877 stellte er in Neapel aus und sandte seine Neapel-Motive auch auf eine Ausstellung in Turin 1880. Santoro besuchte auch Venedig, wo er zahlreiche Veduten vom Canal Grande, San Barnaba und anderen anfertigte. In dieser Zeit wird auch die vorliegende Vedute der Stadt entstanden sein. Zu sehen ist der Blick auf einen eher stillen Seitenkanal, der von zahlreichen, in verschachtelten Winkeln zueinander gestellten Häusern flankiert wird. (9819711) (12)
