Guter Zustand. (980992) (18)

George Grosz
1893 Berlin – 1959 Berlin

SAILOR WITH HARPOON, around 1916

Pencil on paper watermarked “Erglass Schreibmaschinen Papier”.
Verso with the faded estate stamp and the handwritten inventory number “6/113/10” as well as dated by the estate.

The drawing was created during World War I in the typical style of the early period. It belongs to a series of illustrations which Grosz created for the book by the author Rachilde (Marguerite Vallette-Eymery) „The Tower of Love“.Karl Ehrenfried Groß volunteered for the infantry but was dismissed in 1915. Like Helmut Herzfeld (John Heartfield) being in opposition to the war he changed his German name into George Grosz in 1916. Good condition.

This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
