Massimo Campigli,
1895 Berlin – 1971 Saint-Tropez
Eigentlich Max Ihlenfeld. Campigli war zunächst als Journalist tätig, lernte aber in Paris und Mailand zahlreiche Künstler kennen, die ihn ermutigten, selbst Maler zu werden. Ab 1927 widmete er sich völlig der Malerei. Seine Werke waren vom Kubismus und Futurismus inspiriert.

Eingefasst von einem grün-blauen Rahmen und einem inneren roten Rahmen bewegen sich zwei Ballerinas - eine in Blau, die andere in Rotrosé - auf den Betrachter zu. Sie scheinen sich jeweils nur auf einem Bein fast schwebend, aber rasant fortzubewegen. Frauen sind das zentrale Thema im Werk des Künstlers. Zumeist gibt er sie in archaischer Weise wieder. Auf dem vorliegenden Gemälde verquicken sich archaische Darstellungsweise mit geometisch-kubistischer Abstraktion. Craquele.
