Friedrich, 1826 Karlsruhe -1907 Mainau, war der zweite Sohn des Großherzogs Leopold von Baden. Er übernahm die Regentschaft anstelle seines erkrankten Bruders, galt als sehr liberal und als Förderer der konstitutionellen Monarchie. Er führte die bürgerliche Eheschließung ein und war offen für demokratische Reformen, 1904 führte er die geheime und direkte Wahl zur Kammer des badischen Parlaments ein.
Das Doppelbildnis zeigt den Großherzog in Uniform mit Ordensspange, links hinter ihm seine Gemahlin, Prinzessin Luise von Preußen, Tochter des späteren Kaiser Wilhelm I. Im Vordergrund ein Lorbeerzweig und Initialen „FL", darüber Krone des Königshauses. (8212917)
