Lehrer von Johann Offermans, mit Moucheron in Paris und Lyon tätig. Mitarbeiter von Philips Wouwerman. Werke seiner Hand kommen bereits in Sammlungen des 17. Jahrhunderts neben denen Rembrandts und Frans Hals’ vor, was zeigt, dass er schon früh ein hochgeachteter Künstler war.

Verso alter Sammlungsaufkleber in Büttenpapier mit Tintenbeschriftung “Nro. 17”, ovaler Zollstempel, ferner Katalogausschnitt mit Künstlerbezeichnung “Philips Wouwerman” und runder Gummistempel.
Hochformatige Landschaft in feinen Farbtönen, die eine diesige, sommerliche Beleuchtung vorführen. Im Vordergrund eine Anhöhe mit einem auf einem Schimmel sitzenden Hirten mit Strohhut. Daneben ein braunes Pferd unter hohem, abgestorbenem Baum, der am linken Bildrand als Repoussoir hochzieht. Der Hirte führt sein Pferd zur Tränke und betrachtet dabei mehrere Mädchen, die an einer Landzunge sitzen bzw. im Fluss baden. Im Hintergrund am anderen Ufer von der Sonne beleuchtete Felsen. Hoher Himmel mit schlierigen Wolken sowie auffliegendem Vogel. (740922)
