Das Gemälde zeigt eine Vielfalt von Figuren im unmittelbaren Vordergrund. Links eine Kuh im Vordergrund dahinter ein Schaf und Ziegen. Rechts ein Ziegenbock vor einem jungen Bullen. Nach rechts eine Bauernfamilie, die Mutter mit zwei Kindern auf einem Schimmelhengst, rechts davon ein junger Mann, der einen Bogen trägt, hinter ihm ein Spitzhund, nach rechts eine in die Ferne schreitende Bäuerin. Links auf dem Hügel das Bauernhaus, nach dem linken Rand Bäume und Gebüsch, rechts der weite Ausblick in das verblauende Hügelland, darüber ein zartblauer Himmel mit grauem und weißem Gewölk.
