Walter Firle war um die Wende zum 20. Jhdt. einer der bekannten und beliebtesten Genremaler. Er hatte in München vor allem bei Löffzt studiert. Er hatte zur damaligen Zeit Verbindungen zu Max Liebermann und Jozef Israels. Wir finden hier eine Parallele zu Max Liebermanns Amsterdamer Waisenhausbildern. Ein weiterer Einfluss ging von den religiösen Bildern Fritz von Uhdes aus.
