Alessandro Tiarini,

Beigegeben ein Gutachten von Prof. Daniele Benati, Bologna, 14. März 2021, in Kopie, der das vorliegende Gemälde als eigenhändiges Werk von Alessandro Tiarini anerkennt und in die 1630er-Jahre datiert.

Vor unbestimmtem Grund das Hüftbildnis der Maria, die Dornenkrone mit ihrer in optischer Verkürzung dargestellten Hand haltend, während die andere Hand den Umhang rafft. In der Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven in Connecticut wird ein sehr ähnliches Motiv verwahrt, das ebenfalls Tiarini zugeschrieben wird und den Dornenkranz etwas weiter rechts zeigt mit frontal ausgerichtetem Blick Mariae. Accompanied by a copy of the expert’s report of Professor Daniele Benati, Bologna, 14 March 2021, who recognizes the present painting as an original by Alessandro Tiarini and dates it to the 1630s.

A painting with a very similar subject is held at the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, Connecticut, also attributed to Tiarini, showing the crown of thorns a little further to the right, with the Virgin looking straight ahead. Restored.
