Viguier studierte zunächst in seiner Geburtsstadt Marseille bevor es ihn nach Paris zog. Später gehörte er zur Schule von Barbizon. Dies ist auch deutlich in dem vorliegenden Gemälde zu spüren, in dem er stark kontrastierend eine Barke, die allein durch ihren eigenen Schatten und das Gegenlicht lebt, in einen silbrig im Abendlicht glänzenden See gleiten lässt. Über diesem Baumkronen nur wenige Durchblicke ins Abendrot gestattend. (13411529) (13)
