Bei niedrigem Horizont und Verschattung durch massive Wolkenbänke sind im Vordergrund vor beleuchteter Gischt Schiffe sichtbar, deren eines unfreiwillig an einen Fels angelandet ist. Die Besatzung hat sich auf einen Fels retten können, ist noch an Bord oder bereits im Wasser, wo sich ihre Umrisse vor der Gischt abzeichnen. Auch von Gerrit Pompe sind solche Seestücke bekannt, wobei uns die hohe Qualität jedoch an ein Werk von Ludolf Backhuysen glauben lässt. (1271367) (13)
