Auf der Veranda eines Palastes mit großen korinthischen Säulen, zwischen denen man auf den Himmel blicken kann, sitzt an einem mit weißem Tuch gedeckten Tisch Kleopatra in einem zartrosafarbenen edlen Gewand. Sie trägt wertvollen Schmuck und hält in ihrer nach vorne ausgestreckten Hand eine Perle. Ihr gegenüber am Tischende sitzen ihre beiden Gäste, darunter Antonius, teils in Rüstung, der den Luxus der Königin bewundert. Ein edel gekleideter Diener bringt der Königin auf einem Tablett gerade ein Glas Wein, in das sie die wertvolle Perle aus ihrem Ohrgehänge auflösen wird, um sie dann zu trinken. Linksseitig hängt ein hellblaues Velum an den Säulen hinter ihren Gästen, einem Diener und einem stehenden Soldaten mit Lanze. Auf der linken Seite stehen auf dem gemusterten Marmorboden zudem zwei wertvolle goldene Gefäße, rechtsseitig ist zudem am unteren Rand ein kleiner schwarz-weißer Hund zu erkennen. Qualitätvolle Malerei in überwiegend weichen zarten Farbtönen.
Das Gemälde wurde von Kuen kurz vor seinem Tod 1771 vollendet und ist nach dem bekannten Tiepolo-Fresko im Palazzo Labia in Venedig angefertigt worden. Kuen lernte Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696-1770) während seines Studienaufenthalts in Venedig zwischen 1745 und 1747 kennen und wurde von ihm stark beeinflusst. Abweichend von dem Fresko hat Kuen auf der rechten Seite des Bildes eine weitere Dame hinzugefügt und dafür auf der linken Randseite auf eine Figur verzichtet. Zudem fehlt der Treppenaufgang mit einer kleinen Figur im Vordergrund auf dem Gemälde von Kuen.
Schüler von Johann Georg Bergmüller (1688-1762) in Augsburg. Er schuf Ausmalungen mehrerer Kirchen im süddeutschen, schwäbischen Bereich. (1261743) (18)

High-quality painting, in predominantly soft shades. The painting was completed shortly before Kuen’s death in 1771. It is a copy after the famous fresco by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696-1770) in the Palazzo Labia in Venice. Kuen met the great master between 1745 and 1747, while he was staying in Venice to further his training and was strongly influenced by his style.
Student of Johann Georg Bergmüller (1688-1762) in Augsburg. He painted the interiors of several churches in South Germany/Swabia.
