Brustbildnis Mariens nach links mit weißem Schleier und dunkelblauem Mantel. Ihren Kopf mit hellbraunen Haaren, kleinem rötlichen Mund, zart geröteten Wangen, schlanker Nase und fast geschlossenen Augen mit traurigem und sorgevollem Gesichtsausdruck, hat sie leicht gesenkt. Sie steht vor braunem Hintergrund, der unmittelbar hinter ihrem Kopf durch einen Strahlennimbus leicht erhellt wird. Feine, einfühlsame Darstellung, die auf das Original von Carlo Dolci (1616-1686) zurückgeht. Am rechten Rand Farbfleckchen. Rahmen rest.

Der Titel des Gemäldes ist die lateinische Bezeichnung für die Schmerzensmutter, eine im Rahmen der Marienverehrung gebrauchte Bezeichnung der lebenslangen Sorge Marias um ihren Sohn Jesus Christus. (1230971) (3) (18)
