Der Maler wurde, wie mehrere ungarische Künstler der Zeit, darunter Gyula von Benczur (1844-1920), an der Akademie in München ausgebildet, mehrere seiner Werke widmen sich religiöser Thematik.
Die Szene zeigt Hiob, gemäß des Bibeltextes, in einem Gefängnis auf Stroh liegend, im Beisein weiterer Figuren in altorientalischer Tracht. Aufgrund der hohen malerischen Qualität und des Pinselstriches handelt es sich möglicherweise um eine Wiederholung von der Hand des Künstlers oder Kopie nach dem Original, entstanden 1900, das sich im Ungarischen Nationalmuseum in Budapest befindet.
