The saints’ hermitages act as repoussoirs in the painting, pushing into the composition from the left in front of the subjacent vast landscape depicted in aerial perspective. The painting, which depicts Saint Spyridon of Corfu is titled at the saint’s foot “S-SPIRIDIONIS” and shows the saint leaning onto a rock with a rosary.
