Das Gemälde in Anlehnung an das große Altargemälde in der Michaelskirche in München von 1547, das dort in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Italiener Alessandro Scalzi (gest. 1596) geschaffen wurde. Das vorliegende Gemälde hat die Hauptfiguren übernommen, jedoch in anderen Umgebungszusammenhang gebracht. Jedenfalls spricht hier auch die manieristische Malweise und Farbgebung aus dem Bild.
