Realistische, höchst qualitätvolle Darstellung einer Männerprozession, bei der die Teilnehmer in einer nach hinten ziehenden Straße am Boden knien, über den Häusern die Fahnen für Bayern und Österreich. Die auf der Rückseite angebrachte Bezeichnung "Prozession in Gerolsheim/Eifel" ist wohl nicht zutreffend und bezieht sich auf ein anderes Werk des Malers.
Sohn des Historienmalers Carl Friedrich Lessing (1808-1880), verwandt mit dem Dichter Gotthold Ephraim Lessing (1729-1781) sowie mit dem späteren Historienmaler Anton Alexander von Werner (1843-1915). (1171574) (11)
