Zwei Rückenfiguren stehen an einem Brunnen und sind im Begriff Wasser zu holen. Es sind dies eine Mutter mit ihrer kleinen Tochter, welche das Heraufziehen des Wassereimers nachahmt. Hinter dem Brunnen wird ein ländliches Haus sichtbar, dessen Dach partiell von frühlingshaft belaubten Bäumen verdeckt wird. Diese spiegeln in ihrer unterschiedlichen Größe die beiden Lebensalter der Personen wieder. Mit dieser Darstellung zitiert Corot Darstellungsweisen der nordalpinen Malerei des 17. Jahrhunderts etwa eines Teniers oder eines Ostade, wobei jedoch dem hier vorliegenden Werk die Melancholie des Corot immanent ist. (†) (1172063) (13
