Die Tochter des sächsischen Kurfürsten Friedrich August II, als König August III von Polen, und der Erzherzogin Maria Josepha und damit die Enkelin August des Starken 1728 in Dresden geboren, verehelichte sich 1747 mit dem bayrischen Kurfürsten Maximilian III Joseph und verstarb 1797 in München.
Ihre anscheinende Jagdleidenschaft wird nicht nur durch das vorliegende Gemälde dokumentiert, auch ein weiteres Bild zeigt Sie vor Ihrer Eheschließung als Jagdgöttin Diana. Hier in Dreiviertelbildnis lebensgroß wiedergegeben vor landschaftlichem Hintergrund. Die Kleidung bewusst im Stil der damaligen Frühromantik bäuerlich, zum Teil zerschlissen, was die damalige gespielte Naturverbundenheit des Adels dokumentieren sollte. Auf dem Schoß hält sie einen Jagdkasten (wohl ein Gerät für die Vogeljagd), neben ihr links ein weißes Jagdhündchen mit breitem blauen Halsband, darauf das goldene Monogramm "MAS" in Ligatur (= Maria Anna Saxonie). Auch dieses Bild dürfte vor Ihrer Verehelichung entstanden sein und so möglicherweise einem Dresdner Hofmeister zu zuordnen. (1140881) (11)
