Bologneser Schule des 14. Jahrhunderts

Das vorliegende kleine und spitzbogig schließende Gemälde stellte ursprünglich wohl die Tafel eines tragbaren Tabernakels oder eines kleinen Flügelaltars dar. Es handelt sich um ein Werk, das zur privaten Andacht und zur Meditation über das Thema der Passion Christi gedacht war, von dem hier eine ikonische Darstellung geboten wird mit Maria und Johannes im Profil, die den Heiland ins Grab begleiten. Das vorliegende Bild weist klare stilistische Merkmale der Emilianischen und besonders der Bologneser Schule aus der ersten Hälfte des 14. Jahrhunderts auf, erkennbar an der Mischung aus der soliden Giottischen Wirklichkeitsnähe und deutlich gotischen Zügen, die sich an der zeitgenössischen Malkultur der Po- Ebene und des italienischen Nordens orientieren. Diese kulturelle Zuordnung wird von dem segnenden Heiligen Petronius (Stadtpatron von Bologna) bestätigt, der mit Mitra und Hirtenstab in der linken Hand angemessen kleiner dargestellt ist. Die Tafel von hoher Qualität stellt sich als das Produkt eines gebildeten und kundigen Meisters dar, der die neuesten Richtungen der Rimineser Schule kennt, dabei aber besonders dem sogenannten „Pseudo Jacopino di Francesco“ („Polyptychon“, Pinacoteca Nazionale, Bologna), Dalmasio („Kreuzigung“, Pinacoteca Nazionale, Bologna) und Vitale da Bologna („Der tote Christus“, Pinacoteca Nazionale, Bologna und „Kreuzigung“, Museo Thyssen, Madrid) nahesteht. The present small-scale panel painting has a pointed arch at the top and probably originated from a portable tabernacle or a small winged altar. It shows obvious stylistic features of the Emilian School and particularly of the Bolognese School in the first half of the 14th century in its blend of strong Giotto-like realism and obvious Gothic features influenced by the contemporary painting culture of the Po valley and the North. This regional localisation is affirmed by the inclusion of Saint Petronius, the patron saint of the city of Bologna, performing a blessing. This is the work of a master who is familiar with the most recent trends of the Rimini School, and compares closely with the work of the so-called Pseudo Jacopino di Francesco (Polyptych, Pinacoteca Nazionale, Bologna), Dalmasio (Crucifixion, Pinacoteca Nazionale, Bologna) and Vitale da Bologna (Dead Christ, Pinacoteca Nazionale, Bologna and Crucifixion, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Madrid).
