Ein Bauer wird von seiner Frau und einem Knecht in einen Schweinestall geschoben, die Szene umjubelt von einer Menschenansammlung im Hintergrund. Im Zentrum des Bildes ist der hell gekleidete Bauer in gebückter Haltung wiedergegeben. Am Gürtel eine Ledertasche, am linken Fuß überhalb des Schuhs ein Strick, der nach rechts zum Bildrand zieht und zweifellos mit dem Sinnspruch, der uns heute nicht mehr geläufig ist, in Verbindung steht. Eine Bürgersfrau in rotem Rock und grüner Weste sowie weißer Schürze und weißem Kopftuch ist gemeinsam mit einem Mann mit Hut dabei den Bauern in einen Strohgedeckten Schweinestall zu schieben. Zwei Schweinsköpfe erscheinen aus den brüchigen Holzlatten des Stalles und vergnügen sich an Rüben und spiralig wiedergegebenem Gemüse. Im Hintergrund sind Oberkörper und Köpfe von zehn weiteren Personen zu erkennen, eine der Figuren breitet entsetzt die Arme aus. (1091401)

Signed “P BREVGHEL” on the left inside the pig trough.
Accompanied by a materials analysis by M. Schreiner confirming the authenticity of the paint materials used for the stated period with the note that the painting shows minor retouching (“leicht überarbeitet”).
