Christian Sell studierte an der Düsseldorfer Akademie und schuf in seinen frühen Jahren vor allem historische Kriegsszenen aus dem 17. Jahrhundert. Nach der Teilnahme an den Kriegen von 1866, 1868 und 1870/ 71 widmete er sich der Schilderung zeitgenössischer Kriegsszenen. (1011211) (12)
