Gustave Loiseau,

Dort wo bis zur Revolution von 1789 noch die Bastille stand, Symbol für die uneingeschränkte Macht des Ancien Regime, steht nun die Julisäule, die von dem Genius der Freiheit bekrönt wird und an die Revolution von 1830 erinnert. Passend zur Revolution von 1789, denn am 14. Juli diesen Jahres wurde die Bastille gestürmt, schuf Loiseau am 14. Juli 1922 dieses Gemälde und bekräftigt so den Willen zur Freiheit, dem er in seinem flotten Pinselduktus Ausdruck zu verschaffen versteht.
 
Anmerkung:
Loiseau war ein französischer postimpressionistischer Maler, vor allem für seine Landschaften und Szenen von Straßen bekannt. 1890 ging er nach Pont Aven in der Bretagne und kam dort in Kontakt mit den Künstlern, insbesondere Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) und Emile Henri Bernard (1868-1941). In den Folgejahren reiste er auch in die Normandie und die Bretagne, wo er die Hügel und Flüsse der Region malte (1350773) (18)

The place where once stood the Bastille before the 1789 Revolution - a symbol of the unrestricted power of the Ancien Régime - the July Column now stands, crowned by the Spirit of Freedom and commemorating the 1830 Revolution. The Bastille was stormed on 14 July during the 1789 Revolution and fittingly Loiseau created this painting on 14 July 1922 affirming the will to freedom, skilfully expressed in his brisk brushwork.
