Auf vier vergoldeten Bronzefüßen, die lisenenartig mit plastischem Blattwerk an den Korpusecken emporragen, der rechteckige Onyxkorpus mit symmetrischem, in polychromem Email gestaltetem ornamentalem orientalisierendem Dekor. Eugène Cornu, der sich in Paris in der Rue Popincourt 29 niedergelassen hatte, arbeitete als Gestalter und später als Direktor der renommierten Firma Tahan sowie in Kooperation mit der Compagnie des Marbres Onyx d'Algérie, die ihrerseits von Gustave Viot, dem Nachfolger von Alphonse Pallu geleitet wurde. Der Onyx, der 1849 in Algerien durch einen Franzosen wiederentdeckt worden ist, war in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts in Frankreich entsprechend begehrt und wurde gerne zu solchen Luxusobjekten verarbeitet. Beide stellten auf der Weltausstellung 1867 in Paris aus, ihre Vasen signierten sie mit „G. Viot et Cie, Exposition de 1868, Eugène Cornu Inventeur“. (1350439) (1) (13)

Eugène Cornu, who had settled in Paris at 29 rue Popincourt, worked as a designer and later as director of the renowned company Tahan, and in collaboration with the Compagnie des Marbres Onyx d'Algérie headed by Gustave Viot, the successor of Alphonse Pallu. Onyx, which was rediscovered by a Frenchman in Algeria in 1849, was sought after in France in the second half of the 19th century and was often used for such luxury objects. Both exhibited at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1867 and signed their vases “G. Viot et Cie, Exposition de 1868, Eugène Cornu Inventeur“.
