Blick von erhöhtem Standpunkt, wohl aus einem Fenster der Corsoduro-Gebäude rechts neben der berühmten Kirche, die von Baldassarre Longhena anlässlich des Ende der Pest 1687 erbaut hat. Der Blick führt weiter bis zur Torre de Dogana, die Reihe der gegenüber dem Canal Grande liegenden Gebäude werden durch zwei Turmspitzen überhöht. Auf dem Kanal zahlreiche Schiffe und Gondeln.
Die Darstellung geht auf Vorbilder des Malers Antonio Canal genannt Canaletto (1697-1768) zurück. Eine seiner gleichgestalteten Veduten in größeren Maßen (226 x 180 cm) zeigt grundsätzliche Übereinstimmungen, aber auch Elemente die im vorliegenden Werk variiert dargestellt werden, wie vor allem die Kostüme der Staffagefiguren. Der in Venedig zunächst als Bühnenbildner und Dekorationsmaler gearbeitet hatte, auch für das Teatro La Fenice, verlegte sich alsbald auf die Vedutenmalerei, wobei er in der späten Stilnachfolge des älteren Canaletto wirkte. Etliche seiner Werke, wie etwa „Molo di San Marco sotto la neve“ (Pinacoteca di Brescia) von 1833, gelangten auch in öffentliche Sammlungen, wie das Musée Marmotton, Paris. Weitere Werke seiner Hand befinden sich in verschiedenem Besitz, darunter der Kirche San Maurizio, die Sta. Chiara, im Salon Napoleonico oder im Museo Correr. (1301581) (11)

Quite a few of his works, such as “Molo di San Marco sotto la neve“ (Pinacoteca di Brescia) from 1833, also found their way into public collections such as the Musée Marmotton, Paris. Further works by him are held in various places, including the Church of San Maurizio, Santa Chiara, the Salon Napoléonico or the Museo Correr in Venice.
