Der 1523 in Brügge geborene Künstler war Schüler von Pieter Aertsen und seit 1645 in der St. Lukas Gilde in Antwerpen eingeschrieben. 1550 zog es ihn nach Rom und drei Jahre später zog er nach Florenz, wo er bis zu seinem Tode 1605 wirkte. Vor einem angedeuteten Innenraum die Sitzfigur eines bärtigen Mannes etwas nach links gedreht ein offenes Buch haltend.
