Vor einem landschaftlichen Hintergrund ein mächtiger Tempelbau mit korinthischen Kapitellen und grünem Pflanzenwuchs. Zu dessen Füßen teils arkadisch, teils orientalisch gekleidete Figuren in gestischer und mimischer Interaktion, die in ihrer Funktion als Maßstab das dargestellte Gebäude und damit die Imposanz und Wichtigkeit der Antike unterstreichen.
Anmerkung:
Eine ähnliche Komposition wird im Walters Art Museum in Baltimore verwahrt (Inv.Nr. 37.525).
