Majolika-Istoriato-Alzata aus der Werkstatt des Maestro Giorgio

Istoriato-Teller auf kurzem Fuß mit leicht hochgezogener Wandung und rotgoldenem Rand. Im Spiegel rechts Darstellung von Apoll und Daphne. Apoll mit wehender Draperie erreicht gerade Daphne, deren Haupt und Arme sich bereits in die Äste eines Lorbeerstrauchs verwandeln. Vorne lagert der Flussgott Peneus, Daphnes Vater, auf eine Vase gestützt, aus der ein Fluss entspringt. Die Szene trägt sich auf einer leicht hügeligen Landzunge zu, auf der ein großer Baum mit verschlungenem Stamm wächst. Eine schmale Brücke spannt sich über ein Gewässer und leitet zu einer Stadt im Hintergrund, die sich bis zu den Wolken aufzutürmen scheint. Sie setzt sich in Tiefe schaffendem Blau rechts hinter den Köpfen von Apoll und Daphne fort. Die Bemalung in Blau, Mangan, Ockergelb, Grün, Braun, Orange, Rot, Gelb und Schwarz. Die Unterseite mit Arabesken in Lüsterdekor, Datierung und Beschriftung "1529/M G/da Gubio". Ein kleiner Chip am rechten Rand. Rest. Ränder.

Anmerkung:
Die literarische Grundlage liefert Ovid in seinen Metamorphosen. Um Apoll zu bestrafen, traf Amor ihn mit einem goldenen Pfeil und die Nymphe Daphne mit einem bleiernen Pfeil. Er entbrannte in Liebe zu ihr, doch die jungfräuliche Nymphe floh vor ihm. Sie bat ihren Vater, den Flussgott Peneus, ihr zu helfen. Dieser verwandelte sie daraufhin in einen Lorbeerstrauch. Zum Gedenken an seine Liebe trug Apoll seitdem einen Lorbeerkranz.

On a short foot, shallow Istoriato dish with red-gold rim. The centre depicts the mythological scene of Apollo und Daphne. Apollo, in a billowing cape is just reaching Daphne, whose head and arms have already been transformed into a laurel bush.Daphne's father, the river god Peneus, reclines in the foreground, propped up on a vase from which a river springs. The scene is set in a hilly headland featuring a tall tree with a twisted trunk. A narrow bridge spans the river and leads to a city in the background that seems to tower high into the clouds. The city continues on the right behind the heads of Apollo and Daphne and is painted in shades of blue, adding depth to the painting. Painted in blue, manganese, ochre, green, brown, orange, red, yellow and black. The reverse is painted with arabesques, lustre decoration, dated and inscribed '1529/M G/da Gubio'. A small chip on the right-hand side of the rim. Rim restored.

Notes:
Ovid's Metamorphoses serves as literary source for the scene. In order to punish Apollo, Cupid pierces him with a golden arrow and the Nymph Daphne with a lead arrow. Apollo falls passionately in love with her but the virgin Nymph flees from him. She begs her father, the river god Peneus to turn her into a laurel bush. From then on Apollo wears a laurel wreath in memory of his love for her.
