Abstrakte Komposition aus schwarz-braunen, abstrakten Formen auf hellem, gespachteltem Gipsgrund. Die dunklen Elemente ebenfalls gespachtelt in Öl und Teer. 1954 beginnt Manzoni, angeregt durch Künstler wie Burri, Fontana und Fautrier mit neuen Materialien wie Öl, Gips und Email zu experimentieren. 1957 schließt Manzoni sich zusammen mit Fontana der „Gruppo Nucleare“ an, die jede Art von Akademismus zu bekämpfen versuchte. Beeindruckt von Yves Kleins monochromen Arbeiten entstanden 1957 die ersten Achrome - farblose, gipsgrundierte und strukturierte Leinwände - die Manzonis gesamtes weiteres Werk durchziehen. Diese Reliefbilder üben einen großen Einfluss auf die Mitglieder der Gruppe „ZERO“ aus, mit denen Manzoni 1959 gemeinsam ausstellt.
Piero Manzonis Arbeiten sind auf zahlreichen großen Ausstellungen vertreten, u.a. 1968 auf der documenta 5 in Kassel sowie 1972 auf der Biennale in Venedig und finden Eingang in internationale Museen.

Abstract composition of black-brown forms on light, primed plaster ground. The dark elements in oil and tar. In 1954 Manzoni starts to experiment with new materials like oil, plaster and enamel, inspired through the works of Burri, Fontana and Fautrier. Together with Fontana he founded the „Gruppo Nucleare“ in 1957. Impressed by Yves Klein's monochrome works he created his first achromes - colourless, plaster primed and structured canvases - in the same year.
Manzoni's works were exhibited at documenta 5 in Kassel (1968) and the 1972 Biennale in Venice, as well as in countless international museums
