also known as “Scarsellino”,

THE ADORATION OF THE MAGI
Oil on panel.
41 x 32 cm.
The painting is a mature work by the artist and stylistically dates to the first decade of the 17th century. The training in the works of the great Venetian artists of the 16th century (Titian, Tintoretto and Bassano) is evident in the brilliant chromatism and in the depiction of the landscape, elements that Scarsellino adapts to the changing trends of the new century.
Notes:
Since Scarsella liked to repeat popular subjects and translate them into adapted formats, the present composition easily compares to several works, such as no. 0800293536 listed in the Catalogo generale dei Beni Culturali.
