School of Fontainebleau
GALLANT HUNTING SCENE, ca. 1575 – 1580
Oil on panel.
34.5 x 47.3 cm.
Hilly landscape with a group of repoussoir trees on the right edge of the picture with a group of finely dressed figures in front. The middle ground shows a hunting scene, a body of water with a boat and a city glistening in the sunlight, circled by cranes overhead. The background depicts the horizon with a mountain range. Due to the hairstyles and costumes, the painting, which was created by a French painter or a Flemish artist working in France, can be dated to ca. 1575-1580. (†)
Provenance:
Private collection, France.
