Stark rest., erg.

PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG ARCHITECT
Oil on strong poplar panel.
70.5 x 51 cm.
In old frame.
The depicted holds a pair of compasses in his right hand identifying his profession as an architect. Further indications of his biography or area of activity are a vertically striped coat of arms on the windowsill on the right and a medallion with a depiction of Saint George on his cap. The coat of arms is that of the Lombard-Milan family Trivulzio and may indicate that the sitter was in the service of one of these patrons, who ruled in Cremona, Padua, etc. at that time. Extensively restored, mended. Restored, supplemented.
