Camille Claudel,

Bronze, gegossen, patiniert. Das Modell zu dieser beeindruckenden Bronze entstand 1886, also drei Jahre nachdem Camille und der 24 Jahre ältere Bildhauer Auguste Rodin zusammentrafen. Claudel stellte 1885 selbst zum ersten Mal aus und arbeitete seit 1885 zusammen mit Jessie Lipscomb in Rodins Atelier. Am 12. Oktober 1886 setzte Rodin einen Vertrag auf, in dem er sich verpflichtete, Camille als einzige Schülerin zu unterrichten und mit allen Mitteln zu unterstützen und sich auch bis Mai 1887 mit keiner anderen Frau einzulassen. In diese Zeit fällt also die Entstehung unserer Bronze. Seit 2017 wird Camille Claudel ein eigenes Staatliches Museum in Nogent-sur-Seine gewidmet, wo Claudel einen Teil ihrer Mädchenjahre verbrachte, allein hier sind 39 Skulpturen aus Claudels Hand zu bestaunen. Bronze; cast and patinated. The model for this impressive bronze was created in 1886, three years after Camille and the 24-year-old sculptor Auguste Rodin met. Claudel first exhibited in 1885 and from 1885 she worked with Jessie Lipscomb in Rodin’s studio. On 12 October 1886, Rodin drew up a contract in which he undertook to teach Camille as his only student and to support her in any way he could, and not to get involved with any other woman until May 1887. The bronze on offer for sale in this lot was created during this time. In 2017, The French National Museum Musée Camille Claudel opened in Nogent-sur-Seine, where she spent part of her childhood and it celebrates and honours the artist with 39 of her sculptures. (†)
